Komon

Elegantly ancient

With a history reaching back more than 300 years, traditional Japanese decorations have inspired our popular Komon and Komon Natura ranges. The tiles in these ranges combine ancient Japanese patterns with Scandinavian elegance and the rawness of the untreated stone, creating an ornamented, yet aesthetically strict, tiles with a strong emphasis on graphic patterns.

Komon is Japanese for kimono. Popular in the homes of designers and design lovers, the Komon range fuses the best from ancient Asian art with the clean aesthetics of Scandinavian graphic design traditions. These patterns are everlasting and both contemporary and ancient at the same time.

The Made a Mano Komon tiles are made from lava stone from Etna or from terracotto. The glazing is fused with the stone during a burning proces over 3-10 days in a custom built oven, creating one of the strongest and most durable types of stone in the world, and by far the most exclusive. The tiles resist temperatures from -60 degrees celcius to hearth warmth.
